Feature Dancing: The Great American Adventure

Feature Dancing: The Great American Adventure
I wanted a life full of experiences and adventures, so when people ask me “Where do you live?” I proudly respond “Wherever my suitcase is”.

My alarm goes off and I hit my phone to stop the obnoxious noise and lay in bed thinking to myself, Where am I? I find this reoccurring thought happens more and more as my schedule becomes busier. I remember being a child and all of my friends would leave for spring break to Florida or go up north to New York for Christmas holiday. My envy for them led me to make a decision to myself as a young girl that I was going to see the country and have my own traveling adventures.
So far I have been to Montana across to New York, down to Florida over to Texas, beyond to California and all the states in between, all of this because of my career as an adult entertainer. I was told if I pursued a life of dancing, I would forever be a waitress and always be poor, but I have found my freedom and path of life lies in dancing.

The life of a touring feature entertainer is short-lived, fast-paced and intense. While I move at a whirling speed, I smirk as I soak up all the bizarre oddities that inhabit our country. I remember being in Pittsburgh at a gig during the week of the fourth of July and the hotel that I was staying in was also the host hotel to a convention for The Fuzzies. What the hell is a “fuzzy”? These are people who gather together and dress in full body costumes that resemble colorful foxes and bearlike creatures from video games. The barrage of fuzzies crowed the lobby so much that they had to form a Six Flags like line just to get on the elevator. Being in the elevator with these virtual video game characters, I realized they sweat a lot in those suits, pew. I remember driving through the Arizona desert in November around nine o’clock at night and I saw something that looked like a shooting star only it lasted about five seconds as I watched it fall towards the horizon. This strange occurrence lasted much longer than a typical shooting star. More importantly, I now have my first unidentified flying object experience.
I wanted a life full of experiences and adventures, so when people ask me “Where do you live?” I proudly respond “Wherever my suitcase is”. “That must be awful.” This is something I hear very often. While it isn’t the life for everyone, the freedom that my career has afforded me brings vitality to my life and introduces me extraordinary experiences and people. People don’t always tell you what you want to hear, but one thing they do like to do is talk. Encourage someone to talk a bit and they will tell you their life story. As I speak to people I have a greater realization that people’s perception is regional, however there are common themes and ideas that we possess as humans across the country. For example, everyone loves and hates a football team…common theme. Some people’s whole wardrobe exist around that football team…regional. When I smile at people and say “hello” people respond with a smile…common theme. Some people have no teeth when they smile…regional. I asked someone in Montana “How far did you drive to get to the club?” The answer “About seventy miles. Oh, that’s no big deal, well, unless you hit a deer or something. I totaled my car doing that.” I asked the same question of someone in Alabama, “About ten miles. You have to be careful on the way home though, cops and deer. I hit a deer one time. I dented my car doing that”…regional. “Was it worth it to come out and see ladies?” the resounding answer, “YES!”…common theme.
The pleasures of travel have been afforded to be through my work and love of dancing. So as I sit in another hotel room, I set my alarm on my phone and lay down and think to myself, Where am I?
